The
campus of the Zinman College of Physical Education
and Sport Sciences is situated in the Wingate
Institute, in the heart of the Sharon Plain, adjacent
to the Ramat Poleg nature reserve on the western
side of the coastal road (just south of Netanya).
With
its spacious lawns, fields and vistas, the campus
affords all those who enter a feeling of expanse
and serenity. The College's facilities are among
the newest and most advanced in the field and
include, among others, sports halls and fields,
lecture halls, laboratories for learning and research,
and a unique library.
The
College building is comprised of three wings.
The main building, which opened in 1976, consists
of classrooms, lecture halls, the Motor Learning
laboratory, the Educational Technology laboratory
and computer laboratories. The Life Sciences Wing,
opened in 1993, houses a Biomechanics Laboratory,
a new fitness room adapted for use by the disabled,
and classrooms. The new Masters Wing, opened in
2002, accommodates an Anatomy laboratory, halls
for dance and physical activity and classrooms.
College
History
The
College was established in 1944 as a one-year
Physical Education Teacher's Seminary and has
expanded over the years both in terms of programs,
curricula and academic standing. It received full
recognition as an academic institution from the
Israel Council of Higher Education in 1984 and
was granted the right to award baccalaureate degrees.
Its main course of studies leads to a Bachelor
of Education (B.Ed.) degree and also includes
teaching, instructing and coaching in subjects
connected to the life sciences of Physical Education
and sport, recreation, dance and rehabilitation.
The College offers an M.A. degree program in conjunction
with Haifa University and since 2001, it also
offers the option of master's degree studies in
Physical Education at the College.
The
faculty and staff of the College have adopted
quality and excellence as their guiding objectives,
in order to ensure that those attending the College
receive the best training possible in Physical
Education and sport. Studies incorporate social
and cultural activities as well as educational
celebrations of national events.
